Legacy Helps Students in Perpetuity

Edith Marie Reed

Edith Marie Reed's legacy will help students achieve their dreams for generations to come.

Longtime North Idaho resident Edith Marie Reed generously gifted a large portion of her estate to numerous charitable organizations. Edith passed away in 2017 at the age of 94, but her investment in the community will continue to help others in perpetuity.

Born in Colorado in 1923, Edith Marie Martens was one of 10 children. She moved to Idaho with her family in 1934. Edith married Phillip Reed in 1947 in Coeur d'Alene. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their farm on Mica Flats before retiring to Dalton Gardens. Edith was a longtime member of the Mica Grange and a member of the Dalton Gardens Church of Christ.

Under the terms of her will, Edith gifted a portion of her estate to the North Idaho College Foundation in support of scholarships for North Idaho College nursing students.

Her legacy will help make dreams come true for NIC students in perpetuity through the Edith Marie Reed Scholarship endowment.

"By creating a will and designating NIC Foundation as a beneficiary, Edith has created hope and opportunity for students to pursue their goals and career aspirations," says NIC Foundation Executive Director Rayelle Anderson. "We are honored to steward Edith's wishes and her lasting legacy which will help students pursue their dreams."
