Legacy Gift Supports North Idaho College Students

Doris Pucket Moorehead

Doris Pucket Moorehead

Doris Pucket Moorehead was born in 1926 in Huntington, Arkansas. When she was six months old, Doris’s family moved to Bayview, Idaho, where she grew up.

Doris moved to Coeur d’Alene during high school and lived with a local family. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and worked at the iconic Topper Restaurant. Doris eventually moved to California and took a position at the Los Angeles Times selling classified advertising.

Doris married David Moorehead in 1959, and the couple moved from California to Washington state. Doris worked for the Coffman-Dobson Branch of National Bank of Washington in Chehalis for nearly 20 years until her retirement in 1985.

She had a deep interest in genealogy and belonged to several organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution and Clan Napier of North America. David and Doris were married for nearly 50 years when David passed away in 2009 at the age of ninety.

Doris maintained a strong connection with northern Idaho through the years. In 2010, Doris reached out to North Idaho College Foundation. She wanted to leave a legacy gift through her estate plan to support scholarships for North Idaho College students.

Doris attended an event hosted by NIC Foundation and followed up with a thank you note saying how much she enjoyed visiting with guests and learning more about the college.

Doris passed away on April 1, 2018, and through her legacy plan, she was able to distribute her assets to her loved ones as well as several charitable organizations. NIC Foundation was one of the recipients, and proceeds were used to fund the Doris Puckett Moorehead Memorial Scholarship endowment to forever provide scholarships for NIC students.
