Legacy Gift Supports North Idaho College Students

Lucie Maier

Lucie Maier

Fritz and Lucie Maier moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1993 after their retirement. Lucie had a passion for music and was a member of the Coeur d’Aleers women’s singing group with the 3Cs for 26 years. She also sang in the North Idaho College choir. She appreciated the music programs at the college, which inspired her to establish a scholarship in support of students enrolled in music courses.

Lucie, who was born in 1933 in Islip, New York, attended State University of New York at Albany. After her college graduation, Lucie took a teaching position in Mechanicville, New York, where she met Fritz Maier. She went on to earn a master’s degree and became a reading specialist.

Fritz and Lucie were married in Pawling, New York, in 1957. Fritz’s parents moved to the United States from Switzerland, and Lucie and Fritz frequently traveled to Switzerland and other European countries. They were avid hikers and loved to ski.

Fritz, who was a chemical engineer by profession, passed away in 2013 at the age of 81. Lucie passed away in 2020.

Through their legacy plan, Lucie and Fritz were able to distribute their assets to their loved ones as well as several charitable Lucie Maier organizations. The North Idaho College Foundation was one of the recipients, and proceeds were used to fund the Fritz and Lucie Maier Memorial Scholarship endowment to forever provide scholarships for NIC students.
